A company specializing in security barcoded and other types of specialty Zip Ties asked me to help them redesign and remodel their current product line. I was able to increase the manufacturability and strength of the product. It was also possible to improve the tooth engagement and increase the holding power of this product line.

I was then asked to design a new type of Zip Tie that has a special wing-nut shaped head along with a thinned cross section at the base of the head. This would allow for the head to be twisted off by hand when needed without the need for any tools. The challenges were great though. It was necessary to maintain the ratchet and feel of the existing product line as well as the holding power and overall strength. The result is exactly what they wanted. It is super strong, has a high-quality feel, and most importantly is able to be removed easily with a twist of the fingers.

I also redesigned another one of their snap locking products used for securing tote lids. The new design improved its resistance to breaking by refining the shape and minimizing stress points. The new design looks like a smoother, cleaner version of the original. All of these improvements to performance were able to be accomplished without any increase in part cost.
